Callejan

Biography

Behind the curtains of years of musical experience, Adriana continues to work perfecting her art, and is ready to reveal her light, over the road that cost her so much to dig...
A musical genius is not recognized for nominations nor acquired awards, but for the way they translate the spiritual language of the universe through art, to the physical world... and definitely Adriana knows how to do it very well.
Recently she released her first four song CD, promoting her first single in English "I'm here in Canada, and her first single in Spanish "Callejón" in Latin America. She is receiving excellent critics from the public in general, and by the end of 2005 she will be releasing her full Indie CD.
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, she grew up in the beautiful mountains of Miranda State, where she developed an unconditional love for music and poetry.
She learned to play the Cuatro (a miniature four string guitar) at the age of six, followed by Guitar lessons, Flute and Minor Percussion, including Bongos, Guiro, Maracas and many others. "My brothers have been my first musical inspiration" says the artist "Each one of them taught me how to play different instruments, and through them I have learned of my musical influences, such as: Los 007, Celia Cruz, Oscar D' Leon, Ruben Blades, Willie Colón, Ilan Chester, Olivia Newton John, ABBA, Bee-Gees, The Carpenters, The Beatles and of course many composers of Classical Music
At the age of nine, when she wrote her first song "Casas Deciertas" (Deserted houses), she felt a deep desire to become a great Composer. With the help of her mother Patricia and her brother Serbilliano, she begins to study Music Theory, Singing and Piano in the School of Music "Carreño". "It is a blessing to know at such an early age what is your devotion, and mine was to be a Composer, to sing , to produce and play all the necessary instruments in order to record my own music, and I am living that dream in every moment of my life".
With the desire to expand her musical interest, she decides to become a member of the Venezuelan Youth Symphonic Orchestra, and at only Twelve years of age, she becomes the first chair Bassoon player, in which she remains for the following eight years, alternating with second chair Bassoon for the last year.
In November 1989, Adriana travels to Canada, leaving behind but without forgetting the years of classical adventure. Transcending adolescent experience of those days, welcoming what will be an extreme change, in her social as well as her spiritual life. "I have learned so much and it has been a long road, but there's nothing more beautiful then to learn from your journey and its winding roads...there is found the wisdom of immeasurable accomplishments".
In 1994, Adriana participates in the prestigious musical contest OTI Canada, where her song "Quiero Soñar" (I want to dream) was selected out of the top six semi finalist.
"When a melody or a song comes to my mind, it happens in symphonic or orchestral mode, which means I can hear all the instruments and it's individual composition at the same time, immediately I try to make arrangements of each instrument, but usually I like to have a tape recorder to capture the composition more efficiently, or if I am in my studio I use my computer and keyboards" says the artist.
Nature, being her best medium of inspiration, Adriana also spends a great part of her time in her music studio, not just creating her own music, but also collaborating with local bands in projects of music production, arranging, singing, playing and also she is dedicated to the concept, graphic design an publicity of albums.
"I like to have control of all my projects, from the lyrics to the total concept of a video,
I think a true artist tries to protect their individuality in one way or another, but I also try to be flexible to other external human ideas..." "Many will hear good advise, but only the wise will profit from it"- the artist reveal to us from an old proverb.
The professional development of this multi-talented Singer-Composer-Musician-Producer is owed to the fact that Adriana is an independent artist, in search of a massive distribution through an international record deal.
A composer by nature that does not limit herself to any music genre, although as a performer she prefers Alternative Rock and Latin Music. "You have to let your soul express itself in its entire splendor" says Adriana "without sensor or barriers, like a curious child".
Adriana is a perfectionist artist that finds her inspiration submerged in moments of solitude in nature. As a child she was extremely introverted, but a great observer, therefore developing her expression through music and poetry.
She plays more than fifteen musical instruments including Piano, Bass, Drums, Bassoon, Cuatro, Bouzouki, Guitar, Recorder, and a great variety of percussive instruments from India, Africa and Latin America such as Tabla, Congas, Bongos, Mina, Tambora, Curbata and more.

"I'm not here to impress you with the scenery of my existence, the true essence of my life lays on my music and poetry. I have been through events in my journey, where I have learned a great deal of pain and a great deal of happiness, therefore the inspiration of my art. There have been great accomplishments, but I'm not here to impress you...
I am here to translate the love of the universe and express it through music poetry and other arts, without sophisticated words or titles"... Adriana pauses for a moment as she closes her eyes, and recaptures vibrant memories of the past... emotion starts to rise...
"Life and its anecdotes has been the best reward I could ask for. Today I want to share my passion with you; the passion of music, there lays my true happiness and spiritual peace"
